  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Coffee Drizzle:

  • 2 tbsp brewed coffee
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and egg until fluffy. Mix in coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into pan. Bake 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Make Caramel Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and cream. Stir until simmering and cook 3–4 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and salt.
  8. Make Coffee Drizzle: Stir together 2 tbsp coffee and 1 tbsp powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Poke holes all over the cooled cake with a fork. Pour warm caramel sauce evenly over top, letting it soak in. Drizzle coffee glaze on top.
  10. Serve as is, or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
